Life Out of the Box is all about stepping out of the familiar and into the unknown so that one can truly feel alive. We were on a mission here in England. We were dedicated to understanding the European market, to figure out what new products we should develop and to get inspiration for LOOTB. We had no idea where this journey was going to take us, but we were very excited to find out.
As we jumped off the bus from the downtown Victoria Station, we were excited to see what we could learn. This was not a vacation for us. We didn’t have extra money to spend on any touristy adventures. Every dollar we had was to be used on just the basic essentials: transportation, food and water. Thankfully, we had friends and family in England that offered us to stay at their home while on our trip here.
We decided that the first thing we wanted to do in London was get inspired and figured the best places to get inspiration from were the art museums in England. We love engulfing ourselves into the art of every country we travel to so that we can combine all of the different styles around the world and use them in our LOOTB designs.
In order to be able to understand the art we see around us today, it’s important that we understand the history of how it all came to be. Some of the oldest and most influential art came from here in England and all over Europe. History and art come together perfectly in a harmony that is unique to London from the intricate old architecture throughout the city to inside the many different museums. We wanted to take it all in.
As we walked around the beautiful city, in awe of all the art around us outside, we finally stumbled upon our first museum. A wonderful thing about many museums in London is that entry is free and that fit right into our bootstrapping budget. We left our luggage at the museum coat check in the National Gallery Museum and began our exploration.
Our favorite exhibits in all of the museums that we saw were always the ones that demonstrated the development of the artist because we are in the development of our own “art”. We want to get people interested in our story by being transparent about the development of the business and letting others be a part of the story as it develops through the different phases. We find the story of how every great artist or entrepreneur got to their success fascinating and so we want to share ours as we develop LOOTB from the ground up.
As we saw these exhibits that showed artists’ early pieces of art next to their most famous, we knew that every product we come out with must be different and better than the last. We wanted to see the development of our business and each other make that much more of an impact, just like these artists were able to do with their work.
We only got to explore a couple of museums that day, but luckily we were here for a while and would be able to take the time to see as many as we wanted to and get inspired by each one. As the sun set, it was time for us to jump onto another bus to head to our friends’ home in the countryside of Petersfield.
