Giving school supplies is the best part of our business. It’s our favorite part and really at the core of why we do what we do. We’ve always tried to convey the experience of giving the school supplies to our customers through connecting them to the child they give to on our website. We have the best supporters and get many who want to go beyond purchasing a LOOTB bracelet that gives school supplies and actually want to assist us in giving themselves. We completely understand because to truly grasp the experience of giving, one must actually physically give the school supplies to the children themselves. So, when a couple of volunteers wanted to give school supplies on our behalf when they went to teach English to a small school in rural Kenya, we knew we had to make it happen.
Charlie and Kate had been supporters since the very beginning and both had a passion to give back. They are world travelers and really do encompass what Life Out of the Box is all about. They were going to be in Kenya for 2 weeks to teach in a school, live with the locals and get a real experience of what it was like to live in that village.
The school had 18 students, which was the perfect size for first timers to complete the LOOTB process of giving without us there. We explained to them the info and photos that we needed from each student with their school supplies to make their profiles. We were eager to see how everything turned out and to hear all about their experience.
A few weeks later, Kate and Charlie sent us the information needed and photos of each student with their school supplies as well as some very special photos of the entire class holding up signs thanking LOOTB.
It was such a special moment for Jonathon and I because, for the first time, we gave others the experience of actually giving LOOTB school supplies. Through the passion and hard work of our two amazing supporters, we also got the opportunity to give to 18 students in Kenya who needed school supplies. Every child is equal around the world in our eyes and we are determined to get school supplies into the hands of any child who needs them. After this experience, we can see how this can actually happen–through the help of our supporters around the world.
We are so excited to share with you all that Life Out of the Box has given school supplies to a new country, but we couldn’t have done it without Kate and Charlie. Thank you Kate and Charlie for your compassion, hard work and your support in what we do. You went above and beyond to make a difference, you are now inspiring others around the world to give back.
If any of our other supporters have travel plans to a developing country and would like to distribute school supplies to a school or NGO that they are going to volunteer with, let us know! We know that in order to make the biggest impact we can globally, we need you all–we need our tribe.
“If you want to go fast go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
Together we can go far. Together we can change the world.
