As you all know, a few months ago, Jonathon and I made the big decision to take our business into Oklahoma State University’s incubator to grow the business to new heights. Since we’ve been here, there have been a lot of exciting things happening within the company and our growth has been huge. We have wonderful interns who help out daily in the office, we have mentors to guide us through the nitty gritty questions that come up while building our business and we’ve had huge support from the amazing students and staff at OSU.
We’ve come across several opportunities to speak in classrooms and clubs on campus, as well as at entrepreneurial events such as 1 Million Cups and 3 Day Startup. At these presentations we share our entrepreneurial journey with others and encourage them to start something of their own that gives back to the world in their own way.
We also participated in the 2014 OSU Riata Center Pitch & Poster Competition with our idea of expanding Life Out of the Box to a new country. We put together a poster and had to give a 90 second pitch in front of a bunch of students, teachers and judges–it was the first time we’d even done something like it. After a long day and getting to meet some really interesting fellow entrepreneurs, we ended up winning 1st Place and Best Social Venture!
We even participated in the charity fashion show Metamorphosis for Wings of Hope, a local family crisis center doing some amazing work for people and changing lives. We premiered some of our newest shirt/sweatshirt designs and showed off our handmade Moroccan and Guatemalan bracelets on the runway with our awesome OSU models. We had a great time and were thankful to be a part of a special event that raised awareness for a very important cause.
Last month, Oklahoma State University’s Spears School of Business featured us as their Student Spotlight for creating Life Out of the Box. Not only did they make a fantastic video that shows you how Life Out of the Box is growing in Stillwater, but they also featured the wonderful article that was written about how we started Life Out of the Box in the major Oklahoma newspaper, Tulsa World. The article was published on Christmas day and we’ve received a huge amount of local Tulsa support ever since.
We’re excited to share with you both the Student Spotlight video (below), the article in Tulsa World and the feature on the Spears School of Business’s site. Overall, since moving to Oklahoma, Life Out of the Box has been growing at a rapid pace. There have been some amazing opportunities that we’ve had here and we’re looking forward to seeing what happens next.
