It has been a long time since we have updated you on our journey. A lot has happened, a lot has changed–but we’ve missed you all and are very excited to share the big things we’ve been working on. The last update on the blog was an announcement about the great news of going back to Central America and distributing school supplies to more students than ever throughout Nicaragua and Guatemala.
Shortly after that, we visited India to look for new products and opportunities to assist NGOs in improving education for children in areas who need it the most. The artisans were incredibly talented. The locals became our friends. And we met the most inspiring people, who are truly changing lives everyday. We learned a lot and plan to go back for an extended period of time so that we can pursue the opportunities presented to us for LOOTB more thoroughly.
If you missed our video from the trip to India, check it out below. It will probably make you put India at the top of your travel bucket list:
Right now, we’re at Oklahoma State University working out of their Student Startup Center incubator in downtown Stillwater. Our dream has always been to expand LOOTB beyond just the two of us, as we know profound change can only occur when more of us come together. However, as we’ve learned in entrepreneurship, scaling a business comes with its pros and cons. The most important thing to us was that the heart and soul of what drove us to create LOOTB in the first place was not lost. We wanted to ensure that not only did giving remain as the top priority of our growing venture, but that the giving was making an intentional and sustainable impact. In order to ensure this, we have been willing to sacrifice growth in the short term so that our core mission was maintained and could excel beyond our impact potential in the long run.
After much thoughtful deliberation, we’ve decided to pivot our business model towards a strategy that focuses on establishing LOOTB as a platform that enables others to make a significant impact that keeps giving. In order to do so, we started a Living Out of the Box (LOOTB) club, which is designed to bring together individuals that want to experience life to its fullest potential through adventure and giving back. These students are studying a range of business disciplines and they are all very passionate about helping those in need!
Recently our club partnered with Enactus, an international non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action. Check out the video below to learn more.
Through this partnership with Enactus and the LOOTB club, we hope to extend our line of products to create more economic opportunity in impoverished parts of the world. We believe that by investing into people and providing them with new market opportunities that we can make a powerful impact on communities that not only generates jobs but also empowers families to create a better life for themselves.
We’re currently in the research and testing phase of what product and giveback we are going to develop and implement. This has been an ongoing project that started last semester by the LOOTB club and we have been so impressed by the hard work that this very dedicated group of students at OSU have devoted so far. Although we haven’t yet figured out exactly what the new one-for-one product line will be, our ultimate goal is (and always has been) very clear: to make a significant and sustainable impact that improves human lives. Stay tuned friends,
this is where the fun begins.
